| Why stable and testing Clonezilla live are based on Debian, but alternative one is based on Ubuntu ? |
The stable and testing branches of Clonezilla live are based on Debian, i.e. The underlying GNU/Linux operating system is Debian Linux. Ubuntu Linux is for alternative branch.
The reasons to do so are:
- We want a "free" Clonezilla live, so all the packages are from main of Debian, no non-free in stable or testing Clonezilla live.
- However, since most of the cases, the kernel from Debian stable or testing is older, which might not support the latest hardware. Therefore we give an option to make alternative Clonezilla live based on latest Ubuntu (might be alpha or beta one).
BTW, sometimes it's not easy to follow Ubuntu every 6 month with "big" changes, so that's why we give it the name "alternative".
